About the project
This website and the Harris exhibition Global Threads: Asian Textiles & Fashion Today are part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad programme Stories of the World.
Britain’s Cultural Olympaid began in 2008 and will finish in 2012 after the London Games. The aim is to inspire cultural creativity and give everyone in the UK a chance to be part of the Olympic celebrations.
Stories of the World is is the largest youth participation project ever delivered by UK museums. Museums nationwide are using their collections to tell an inspirational story about Britain’s place in the world.
The Harris is one of six museums in the North West taking a fresh and often radical look at the region’s rich textile heritage.
The North West team includes: Blackburn Museum & Art Gallery; Bolton Museum & Archives Service; Lancashire County Museums Service; the Gallery of Costume, Manchester and the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester.
